Y'all Suckas!

I knew having M in my class would be exceptionally fun when he showed up to the first day of second grade wearing a full suit, bow-tie, and shined patent-leather dress shoes. I mean, really.

E is a precocious child; he's the only first grader I know that sports some serious bling. Large diamond studs in each ear. Pumas. Heavy gold chains around his neck. E's greatest bling, however, is his mega-watt smile.

I have never seen eyes quite as wild.

There are just some things you think would never happen. Ever.

It's Spanish week again. Time to teach the kiddos all about the parts of a plant in Spanish. I am armed and ready with lots of hands on activities and even a fun song with motions.

I love reading my kids' journals and responding to them. They share the best things with me.

I created this blog per the suggestion of a good friend. While sharing a recent hilarious incident that transpired in my classroom, he said, "Wow. You should have a blog."

And so it was that Y'all Suckas! Adventures in a Second Grade classroom was born. This blog comes into this world kicking, screaming, squirming, whining, laughing, crying, and sharing pearls of hilarious wisdom because, really, it is the brainchild of the students in my classroom. By blogging, I am merely passing on their wit and wisdom.

The inspiration for the blog title comes from one of my favorite teaching stories. Though I haven't been a teacher for long, I knew the moment this happened that this story would always be one of the best I have. Here goes...
